The spot where Tangs Shopping Mall now stands is different in the past and now with regards to its purpose of usage. In the past, that site was used as a residence for the Manasseh family. However Tang recognised the potential of the location due to its strategic location. Residents living in Tanglin and Holland Road, and Malaysians from Johor Bahru, had to drive pass his store in order to get to the city centre. This means that the use of that site where Tangs Shopping Mall now stands has transformed over the years from residential to commercial purposes.
